Frequently Asked Questions:

Will this summer camp be in person?
Yes, both camps will be held in person at COVID-safe venues across Calgary.
Please note COVID restrictions are subject to change.

My son/daughter is new to robotics. Is any experience required?

Nope! Our camps are designed for beginners so no experience is required. We also provide more difficult challenges for more experienced roboticists, so all skill levels are invited to register!

My son/daughter is in Grade X, which camp should I register him for?

Register for the grade that your child is in currently for the 2023-2024 school year. For example, if your son is currently in grade 4 and is going into grade 5 in September, he should register for the grades 3-4 camp, not the grades 5-6 camp.

Can I refer a friend?
Yes! Write down the name of the person you're referring when completing the registration under the prompt "Please type in your referer's name"  and receive a 15 dollar credit that is provided at the end of the summer camp. The person you referred will also receive a 15 dollar credit when they sign up!

Can I refund my purchase?

We offer a full refund minus a $40 administration fee before 11:59 PM MST on June 15, 2024. We will not offer refunds after June 15. Please send your refund request to info@westernmech.ca

How will the Full Volume matches work?
Full Volume matches will work similarly to official VEX competitions. Teams of two robots will compete in a 1-minute collaborative challenge to attempt to score as many points as possible. The first 25 - 35 seconds will be driven by one driver, with the team needing to switch to another driver for the remaining time. Watch this video for a brief description of what to expect.

How will the Over Under matches work?
Over Under matches will work similarly to official VEX competitions. Teams of two robots will compete in 2v2 battles to attempt to score more points than the other alliance in 2 minutes. The first 15 seconds will be completely autonomous (the robot moves by itself with no driver based on code), with the remaining 1:45s being driver control. Watch this video for a brief description of what to expect.
